Acalypha Indica (Haritmanjari) Garden plant

Acalypha indica (Indian nettle) –It is a very ornamental plant having good visible spiral leaves which have a good aesthetic green look. It is a garden plant but due to its various environmental & health benefits, it is categorized as herb. It grows artistically with round shaped development with ovate leaves & green flowers. Indian nettle is an annual to sometimes short-lived perennial herb that usually grows up to 1.5 meters tall with occasional specimens to 2.5 meters. Acalypha indica flowers throughout the year. The plants need fair amounts of water and nutrients to grow quickly and stay tender. These plants can be sown outdoor i.e. gardens as well as indoors in pots but it attains its natural color when grown out doors in garden or pots where sunlight is proper. They survive even in high sunlight & summers. It can easily be grown indoors in pots. It is very easy to grow these plants with due care at home. We tried for a long time and finally developed the plants of Acalypha indica which are organically grown without using any chemical fertiliser & pesticide. These plants are worth planting in home & garden for a greener & cleaner environment.

It has numerous medicinal uses in India and is listed as herb in The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India as Haritmanjari. Acalypha indica is an important medicinal plant in the Indian Ocean islands as well as in India for its expectorant properties. It also has significant antibacterial and antifungal activities, both against human and plant pathogens. It is also known as Indian Acalypha, Indian Copper leaf or three-seeded mercury. It is known in various names across regions – Kuppikhokli (Hindi), Kuppigida (kannada), Kuppameni (Malayalam), Haritamanjari (Sanskrit), Poonamayakki, Kuppaimen (tamil), Ricinelle des Indes, oreille de chatte, herbe chatte (French) Re dai tie xian cai (Chinese) Maraotong (Philippines).
